Then the Trial by Fire album was released and again no tour. So when they relaunched with Steve Augeri, they had to put in a lot of work to build back an audience. Even a tour with Steve Perry would have been on a smaller scale then Journeys tours in the 80's. After the release of the album, Trial by Fire, Journey planned to tour before Perry suffered an injury in a hiking accident; he refused to undergo surgery, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the group. Perry's departure was officially announced in May 1998.
